Al Giovanni – Stonemason
Al/Artist.jpg
Since he laid his first brick...
In May of 1969, Al Giovanni mixed his first batch of mortar and laid up his first brick on a Fireplace facing. To learn other aspects of the Masonry Trade, he would hire on with a Mason who was the best at that skill.

Arni Hoiberg taught him the art of brickwork, Guy Rochon gave him the knowledge to repair smoking Fireplaces, George Mudri showed him the art of Stone Masonry, Geoff Tisch ingrained the importance of being precise and thorough, James Griffen impressed in him Integrity in Construction and Genie Pierce enlightened him with the history and philosophy of Freemasonry and its historical connection to Stone Masonry.

As a qualified Mason, he assists architects in the planning phase to design for the best cost, function, sizing and use of Masonry Units.  Al has worked with plans or no plans, making adaptation, changes and modifications on the job. His interest in photography has given him a good eye for design.

Interior and exterior, from arches, ponds, pools stone decks and walls, to walks, stairs, ovens, fireplaces and chimneys, Al has done them all. The Grotto, pictured in his portfolio, is a good example of his design skills.

Currently, he has projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Idaho.
